Afghanistan (194/10 in 48.3 overs) lost the first and only ODI match against Pakistan (198/3 in 37.1 overs) by 7 wickets.
One of the most awaited cricket match in International cricket between the two neighbors ended in Pakistan favor. Although Afghanistan lost the match against the cricket giants but still it was enough to receive appreciation from former cricketers.
Imran Farhat, Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq brilliant batting performance made the day for Pakistan. After receiving the target of 196, Pakistan start was not that good as they lost Hafeez early, he got out for 8 while Shafique left the ground on 20 runs. Imran Farhat struggled at the start but he managed it later and scored 52 runs. After losing 3 quick wickets, the senior player Younas khan and captain Misbah-ul-Haq didn't allow the Afghan bowlers to get another wicket, both the batsmen scored unbeaten 70* and 40*. Dawlat was the main bowler for Afghanistan, he took 2 wickets. Pakistan achieved the target in 37.1 overs after losing 3 wickets.
Earlier Afghanistan team bowled out at 195/10 in 48.3 overs, some little partnerships were seen from Afghan side. Opener Karim Sadiq was the top scorer for Afghanistan, he scored 40 runs while Mohammad Nabi scored 37 runs. The world best spinner Saeed Ajmal failed to take wicket against Afghan team, especially he surprised with the reverse sweep six that Mohammad Shahzad hit on him. Shahid Afridi completed his 5-fir in first ODI match of the new year, he was the main bowler who destroyed Afghans batting line up. Shahid Afridi was also given man of the match award for his brilliant performance with bowl.
Afghanistan team performance was that enough to receive the praise from cricketer like Younis Khan. Younis said ; "Can the ICC please replace Afghanistan with Bangladesh? Its so refreshing and exciting to see a new team in world cricket and that too play with so much intent and determination! I am sure they will do a much better job than Bangladesh."
