Asia Cup started with a right kind of match, as the hosts put on a great fight against Pakistan, but was unable to upset Pakistan, as Pakistan was able to deny the 1st upset of Asia Cup by winning the opening encounter by 21 runs.
The Asia Cup Started with a thriller match between the hosts Bangladesh & Pakistan. Bangladesh won the toss in the opening match of Asia Cup and put Pakistan into bat, which was a surprise decision on a bating pitch.
It was a new opening pair for Pakistan as Jamshed comes in the team, after a long time to start the innings with Hafeez. Pakistani openers started the innings very slowly & cautiously. The openers gradually increase the momentum as they past the 50 runs stand in 81 balls.
Jamshed & Hafeez both crossed their half cenuries in the 100+ partnership for the opening wicket. Jamshed was looking great guns for scoring 54 runs but was unfortunate to carry on, as he was run out by Shakib when the score was 135.
Younis joins Hafeez after the dismissal of Jamshed but he was unable to form another partnership with Hafeez as he was dismissed cheaply by Shahadat on 12.
After the 1st wicket's huge partnership, the remaining batsmen falls cheaply. Hafeez also gone after playing a patient inning of 89 off 126 balls.
At one stage Pakistan was 135-0, which suddenly changes to 198-7, as Bangali tigers hit back Pakistan. Pakistan was looking all over the place but Umer Gul played a cameo of 39 off just 24 runs, which proved to be a match winning knock at the end.
Pakistan reached 262-8, due to some fireworks in the batting by Pakistani tail-enders. Sarfaraz & Gul partnership was a crucial one, as they both put on a partnership of 53 runs for 8th wicket.
In reply, Bangali tigers started their innings confidently & their openers put on a partnership of 45 runs. Tamim Iqbal played a great knock of 64 runs off just 66 runs, due to which Bangladesh was able to show some promise, resilience & fight.
Later on, Tamim & Mahmudullah were dismissed on back to back bowls by Hafeez. Bangladesh was looking under par because, they had lost 5 wickets for just 135 runs on the board.
Nasir Hussain joins the former skipper Shakib Al Hassan, when their team was in superb trouble. Both of these batsmen played really well & superbly for the 6th wicket & formed an excellent partnership of 89 runs.
Nasir Hussain was bowled by Umer Gul at a time, when the thing was looking just too easy for the Bangali tigers, as Bangladesh just needed 39 off 40 balls.
Pakistani bowlers bowled really well after the dismissal of Hussain on 47, as they keep on taking wickets with regular interval. Shakib Al Hassan was playing really well on one side but there was no other batsman on the other side to be partner of him.
Shakin Al Hassan was really awesome for playing an tremendous knock of 64 runs but he was unable to give his team a historic victory.
In the end, Pakistan was able to win the match for 21 runs but a tremendous fight shown by the Bangali tigers. Muhammad Hafeez was announced Player of the match for his all-round performance, scoring 89 runs & taking 2 crucial wickets for Pakistan.
