The stage is all set for Master Blaster Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar to start his new innings but this time not on the field but rather in the Parliament as Member of Parliament.
Indian President Pratibha Patil on Thursday approved the nominations of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar to the Rajya Sabha. "The President has approved the nomination of Sachin Tendulkar".Earlier on the day government recommended cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Tendulkar would be the first active sportsman and a cricketer to be nominated to Rajya Sabha.
Tendulkar's nomination to Rajya Sabha has come as a surprise against the backdrop of a long-standing demand for conferring of Bharat Ratna on him for his contribution to the game. He completed the historic achievement of scoring 100 international centuries in March this year.
Tendulkar and his wife Anjali paid a courtesy visit to Congress President Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi this morning. Sonia wanted to meet the batting great and personally congratulate him on achieving the historic feat of scoring 100 international centuries.
Tendulkar and his wife spent close to half an hour with Sonia. Tendulkar, who turned 39 on Tuesday, had to wait for more than one year to move from 99 hundreds to the landmark 100th century before finally achieving it in an Asia Cup match against Bangladesh on March 16.

The 39-year-old Tendulkar, who has brought many a laurel to the country through his exploits in the game will become members of Parliament under a provision of the constitution that allows the President to nominate 12 members to the Upper House. He has nominated under
Article 80 of the Constitution for persons having special knowledge or practical experience in matters such as sports, literature, science, art and social service.
However his former teammate Sanjay Manjrekar which is now a commentator and cricket analyst and Commentator Harsha Bhogle is not happy with his decision. Manjrekar earlier said that its came as shock to me that Tendulkar accepted the decision because right now he is playing cricket and has very much involved in it.Its very tough task to do both things simultaneously and Parliament is something which Sachin is totally unaware and new to it.

He should stay away from politcis, this will be a grave mistake if decides to go ahead. People in India have lots of respect for Sachin and in fact if he joins anti-corruption movement instead of becoming a congress' toy his respect will go up among common man. He can definitely give a boost to anti-corruption movement using his cricketing super-star (god) status. But I guess, he is interested in more records, more awards (Bharat Ratna, etc) for which congress can help...sad.
