Sehwag picks me best: Narine

Sunil Narine can bamboozle any batsman with his mystery balls. He was the destructor-in-chief when Trinidad & Tobago humbled the mighty Chennai Super Kings on their own turf in CLT20 2011. That performance played a big role in the off-spinner getting a chance in IPL 2012. He was back on the same ground, this time, as a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

After the Knight Riders registered their first ever IPL win in Chennai, Narine spoke about his now-famous knuckle ball and other variations in his armoury.

Q: When you were here for the CLT20 2011, you got the better of CSK; was that playing at the back of your mind today?

A: No it wasn’t really playing at the back of my mind. It’s a game of uncertainties, so whoever plays better cricket wins it.

Q: You underwent some changes with your action. What were they and how did it help you become the bowler you are today?

A: It wasn’t any major changes. I was just concentrating on my cricket and what I am capable of. Everyone supported me back home and made me believe that I can do anything.

Q: What was the turning point of your career according to you?

A: It was the CLT20 2011. Playing in front of huge crowds and being able to perform at my best was an achievement.

Q: How many variations do you have?

A: Three – the knuckle ball, off-break and the faster one.

Q: How did you develop the knuckle ball?

A: I have played a lot of soft ball cricket back home and tried it with the hard ball, and it came out pretty well. Hopefully, I continue doing this and come up with new balls.

Q: Do you practice it often?

A: I practice it in every practice session.

Q: When do you use it the most?

A: I can’t say when I use it the most. It depends on the situation of the game and how I am going about my bowling.

Q: Which batsman picks you the best?

A: Virender Sehwag.

Q: Due to modern technology, batsmen find a way to decode mystery bowlers very soon. As a bowler, you need to keep evolving. Are there any other variations you are working on?

A: Nothing at this moment. I am just concentrating on what I am capable of doing. In time I definitely will come up with something new.

Q: You have three young spinners in the KKR side. Do you brain storm a lot among yourselves?

A: We talk about the game and how to go about ourselves. Hard work and dedication is the key to achieve anything.

Q: What’s the best thing about the IPL for you till now?

A: Playing in front of a huge crowd and performing at my best. What else could have I asked for?

Bangladesh received threats over Pakistan tour

Bangladesh's Deputy High Commissioner in Pakistan has revealed that they were recieving threatning email and messages after their Board decided to send its country's cricket team to play One Day International and T20 in Pakistan. According to a news channel Bangladesh's Rohal Alam Siddiqui has claimed that the tour of Pakistan have been cancelled after feeling security issues there in Pakistan.

Siddiqui qouted that "we have received threat in the form email, messages and letters against the Pakistan tour and that is why our court has decided not to send our team to Pakistan but we are being positive hoping for Pakistan tours in future". He said that the news of threats were confirmed by the authorities of Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh cricket board has conveyed this message to Pakistan cricket board that they are not sending their players to Pakistan after hearing the decision of Dhaka High Court in which some senior players of Bangladesh filed a petition against the decision of board for sending team as their were security reason concerned.

The PCB has not taken kindly to the tour being postponed indefinitely since Bangladesh would have become the first Test playing nation to tour Pakistan since March, 2009 when terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan team in Lahore and killed six policemen and a van driver. Some of the visiting players were also wounded in the attack.

Delhi won the thriller against Rajasthan by 1 run

Delhi Daredevils 152 for 6 (Sehwag 63, Pankaj 2-25) beat Rajasthan Royals 151 for 3 (Rahane 84*, Morkel 1-26) by one run

Delhi Daredevils battled hard to make a great comeback and claim a superb one-run win over a determined Rajasthan Royals at the jampacked Ferozshah Kotla in the IPL-5 here last evening.

Rajasthan Royals’ bowlers and fielders restricted Delhi Daredevils to 152 for six in 20 overs and then skipper Rahul Dravid and his young protégé Ajinkya Rahane shared a 99-run opening stand to help the visiting side get close to victory before some moments of magic turned the game for Delhi Daredevils.

The first moment of magic – in the form of a super running catch by Ajit Agarkar – infused hope into Delhi Daredevils’ attempt to keep Rajasthan Royals in check. Agarkar ran back to his right at long-on and leapt to pluck a brilliant catch when Dravid drove Irfan Pathan powerfully after making 40 (38 balls, five fours).

The catch ended the skipper’s determined opening stand with Rahane. Dravid took on the Delhi Daredevils attack initially, outscoring his younger partner, but Rahane found his rhythm and soon regained the Orange Cap from Delhi Daredevils skipper Virendra  Sehwag who had helped his team overcome early setbacks by scoring his fourth successive half-century.

The second moment of magic for the Delhi Daredevils came when Morne Morkel bowled a great penultimate over and trapped Brad Hodge leg before. Umesh Yadav bowled the final over with vim and vigour, with the visiting side needing 12 to win. With two needed off the final ball, Owais Shah was run out by wicket-keeper Naman Ojha when Rahane (84 not out, 63 balls, nine fours, one six) and he tried to steal a bye.

Earlier, Sehwag, whose three previous knocks were worth 57, 87 not out and 73 runs, made 63 (39 balls, eight fours, two sixes) before he was caught at sweeper cover off left-arm spinner Brad Hogg. His first six – over extra cover off Kevin Cooper – took his tally of sixes to 100 from 91 T20 matches. Importantly, he added 76 runs for the third wicket with Ross Taylor.

Taylor (25, 35 balls), who was content to rotate the strike when Sehwag was the crease, was bowled leg-stump by the gangling fast medium bowler Pankaj Singh but he had played his part in rebuilding the innings after walking in at 19 for two. The Delhi Daredevils’ late surge was handled by Yogesh Nagar (27, 20 balls, two fours, two sixes).

After choosing to bat first, the home team lost Mahela Jayawardene (6) and Kevin Pietersen (5) in the second and third overs respectively. Jayawardene was caught at backward square-leg off Pankaj Singh while Pietersen, playing his last game at the Kotla this IPL season, was caught at slip off left-arm spinner Ankeet Chavan.Even though he did not claim a wicket, Kevin Cooper was the pick of the Rajasthan Royals bowlers, conceding just 19 runs in his four overs. Pankaj Singh had returns of two for 25 in his four overs. Hogg and Chavan had identical figures of one for 31 each in their four overs. Rajasthan Royals would be pleased with its effort on the field.

Sehwag was named Man Of The Match for his well made 63 runs in just 39 balls which help in putting a descent total on the board.

Chanderpaul regained No. 1 Test ranking

Once again the master batsman of West Indies, Shivnarine Chanderpaul gained the No. 1 ranking for Test batsmen after nearly three years. Chanderpaul came as a leading scorer in the 3 matches test series with 346 runs, Australia won the series by 2-0.

Chanderpaul twin half-centuries in the final test in Dominica against Australia helped him to reach the top position. Along with the top position in Test Cricket, Chanderpaul also passed the 10,000-run mark in the Test Cricket.

Last time the batsman attained the No. 1 ranking in July 2008, he held the position for seven months and dropped to No. 2 in February 2008. He get back the position after the three Tests later. In May 2009, Younis Khan snatched the top spot from him, Chanderpaul after losing the No. 1 ranking slipped to as low as No. 15.

Chanderpaul said; "It feels good to be back in the top spot in Test cricket, I am batting well at the moment, and when things are going well for you at the crease, you try to keep going and building and look to make the most of every innings you play."

Gambhir leads from the front as Kolkata crushed Bangalore

Kolkata Knight Riders 190 for 4 (Gambhir 93, McCullum 43) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 143 for 6 (Gayle 86) by 48 runs

It was Gambhir and Company all over in the field against Bangalore in their ninth match and fifth at there home ground Eden Garden Kolkata. This time it was totally good track for batsman unlike the others matches played here at Eden. Gambhir after winning the toss decided to bat first and his decision proved worthy when he with New Zealand blaster McCullum started very firmly for Kolkata Knight Riders.

They both played a very accelerated innings McCullum was slow earlier but Gambhir from very first bowl was decided to dominate on the bowlers and he did succeed in it . As we all know that fortune favors the brave and that's why Gautam gambhir was among luck today. He was dropped twice in the field today and make Bangalore pay for this. He batted with his full aggression today and scored (93) in 51 balls including 9 fours and 5 huge sixes.

He involved in 95 runs partnership with McCullum(43) and then 80 runs partnership with Jack Kallis(41) to put  up a descent total of 190-4. While nothing was good for RCB as they have failed in every department whether it is bowling or fielding. Every bowler was failed to make his impact on the field just Vettori was the economical of all and taken 1-29.

While chasing the mammoth total of 191 runs RCB has to be accelerate their innings from the beginning but they were failed in it and Yousuf Pathan give RCB first blow in the form of Dilshan. Then Kohli and AB Devilliers also went out cheaply and Gayle was also so lazy in the beginnings. Gayle in the end of the innings showed some good hands but it was too late for the visitors and host make their lead 2-0 against RCB in this edition of IPL-5.

In the bowling department Sunil Narine was awesome with the ball once again just 1-11 in his 4 overs while Yousuf Pathan was also economical this time just 1-19 in his four. Kallis also took 2 wickets. And at the end it was considered as very easy win for Knight Readers by virtue of this win they maintained their position to 2nd in the group table while Bangalore is at the 4th on the table.

Man Of The Match was undoubtedly given to Captain Gautam Gambhir for his well made fast 93 runs.

Government Influence in Boards and Injured ICC

By: Abdul Aziz
Youth on Cricket CEO.

A day ago when I was talking to different associate teams board, one of YOC former author from Pakistan forwarded me an article written on "Bangladesh high court decision and Pakistan Cricket Fans". It was an interesting article to read but I found it little isolated as well.

Talking about the government influences, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has already ordered the boards to get relief from government influences. Boards like England, Australia, South Africa and others that are working independently welcomed the ICC decision as it was taken for the better future of the cricket. Unlike the other boards, the Asian Boards which are strongly bounded by the governments didn't show interest on the ICC decision.

Started from India, IPL rejected many players after terrors attack on Mumbai, with those attacks one of Pakistan domestic champions "Sialkot Stallions" was eliminated from the 1st edition of Champions League. Not only Champions but also in third edition of IPL, Pakistani players who were expecting to be high rated players in third auction of IPL was rejected in very bad way at a time when they became the new Champions of T20 Cricket. "Lalit Modi" said later that it was a political decision while the ICC couldn't do anything with that because they said IPL is the Indian League.

From IPL to the World Cup 2011, most of the BCCI statements were government decisions. After the World Cup 2011 when the PCB offered Indian board to arrange a series on neutral venue, the BCCI forwarded the invitation of PCB to the government which they rejected later. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) tried to seek help from ICC but the Governing Body failed to take any step in favor of PCB

After ICC failure on resolving the issue, some former Pakistani players and fans said that ICC work under India power as the BCCI is the powerful cricket board on economic base. Not only Pakistani but also some former cricketers of other countries shared the same statements against ICC.

From Pakistan-India series when the ICC statement of making the boards independent decision reached to Pakistan, the President of Pakistan "Asif Ali Zardari" rejected the ICC decision and said that he will keep going as a Patron in Chief of Pakistan Cricket Board. Again the governing body failed to take any serious step against the Pakistan Cricket Board which is backed by not only Test teams but also non-test playing nations. Although there were some news around that the ICC will suspend Pakistan due to Zardari decision but no such official statement take place. Which not only wondered the former cricketers but also shared a different story of the crises cell?

After arranging a successful league of BPL, the Bangladesh Cricket Board also strengthened its position in ICC members list due to its economic power. More money hit the Asia Cup 2012, due to which Bangladesh becomes another country that can bring attractive sponsors after India.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh "Sheikh Haseena Wajid" left the stadium after the lost of his team in place of giving the trophy to the winning team. On next day of the final, the Government of Bangladesh stopped its team from touring Pakistan. After the government decision, during ICC meeting president of BCB "Mustafa Kamal" announced their team visit to Pakistan at the end of the April. This decision was highly appreciated by large number of Bangladeshi fans but the high court of Bangladesh postponed the team tour due to some former players and fans protest. Again the ICC seemed a silent visitor on government decision. This time against Bangladesh and failed to take any serious step.

ICC has given two years to each board to not work under government but to work independently. Unlike the FIFA, the International Cricket Council go with eight top cricket nations, if the ICC put ban on one these boards then it will affect the cricket badly and will lost large number of cricket followers. The ICC want cricket to be clear from the politics but the Asia Governments are keen interested to use the boards for their politics. Statements are made against the ICC by the some powerful Boards players but the Council is silent, in simple words we can say ICC is injured and can't take any serious step against a board.

I am looking forward to playing under Sourav Ganguly : M.Clarke

Michael Clarke headed for his first stint in the Indian Premier League on Friday, said that he was looking forward to playing under former India skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Clarke masterminded Australia’s 2-0 Test series win in the West Indies, taking his record as national team captain since succeeding Ricky Ponting last year to nine wins, three draws and two defeats. But at the Pune Warriors, he will have to play under Ganguly whose international career featured a number of fierce, competitive clashes with the Australians.
“I think that Sourav’s always been a nice guy. I’ve always got along with him well and I look forward to playing under him,” said Clarke, after Australia beat West Indies by 75 runs in the third and final Test.
“It seems like he’s doing a really good job as captain-coach over there and I’ve spoken to a couple of the boys and they seem to be really happy about how things are so for me it’s an eye-opener.”
Clarke will have to reacquaint himself with the Twenty20 cricket in India having already quit the shorter international form of the game to concentrate on his Test and ODI career with Australia. “I’ve never been to the IPL. I’ve said for a long time that when the opportunity comes up and I feel that it’s right for me that I’d love to get over there and have a crack and see what it’s like,” he said.

Australia Win Test Series by 2-0

By: Usama Manzoor
Youth on Cricket Author, Pakistan

A flourishing half-century from Darren Sammy, failed to change the course of history and brought Australia a 75-run victory in a rousing conclusion to the third and final Digicel Test on Friday.

Sammy batted with typical freedom, smoking four fours and three sixes in 61 from 51 balls in just over 1 ½ hours in a last-ditch bid to single-handedly try to change the outcome, as West Indies unsuccessfully chased 370 for victory on the final day at Windsor Park.
The West Indies captain added 49 for the last wicket with hometown hero Shane Shillingford, whose 31 not out included half-dozen fours from 46 balls in 45 minutes, bringing a thrilling climax to the match before the frenzied partisan crown.
Sammy was caught at short fine leg off a top-edged sweep from off-spinner Nathan Lyon’s bowling to bring the match to a close about five minutes before lunch, as West Indies were bowled out for 294 in their second innings.
The result meant that West Indies lost the three-match series 0-2, following a three-wicket defeat in the first Digicel Test at Kensington Oval in Barbados, and a draw in the second Digicel Test at Queen’s Park Oval a week later.
It also ensured Australia firmly hung onto the Frank Worrell Trophy, symbol of supremacy between the two sides.
West Indies were always under the clock, once Australia captain Michael Clarke, bowling his uncomplicated left-arm spin, and Lyon grabbed two wickets apiece in the first hour.
After West Indies resumed from their overnight total of 173 for five, Clarke struck early, when Narsingh Deonarine was caught and bowled for 13, digging out a full-length delivery.
Field umpire Tony Hill of New Zealand asked TV umpire Ian Gould of England for assistance and TV replays suggested the ball was driven back to the bowler on the full.
Carlton Baugh Jr made 12 before he pulled a short ball from Lyon to short mid-wicket, where Ricky Ponting held a blinder over his head, and Kemar Roach was caught at slip off the same bowler for two.
Ravi Rampaul came to the crease with Sammy in full cry and tried to match his captain’s effort, but he was caught at deep mid-on from a miscued loft, giving Clarke the last of his five wickets for 86 runs from 23 overs before Lyon brought things to a close, ending with three for 87 from 29.3 overs.
Australia wicketkeeper/batsman Matthew Wade named Man-of-the-Match for his maiden Test hundred of 106 that gave Australia a healthy first innings total of 328.
But durable West Indies left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpal was chosen as Man-of-the- Series. He finished with a series-high 346 runs at an average of 86.50.
Roach was also the most successful bowler in the Test series. He captured 19 wickets at 19.73 apiece, with Shillingford’s 14 at 26.14 the second-highest tally.

Pakistan League Would Not be IPL Copy - Zaka Ashraf

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf keen on attracting investment for its planned Twenty20 from Indian Market, also the league won't be an "exact model" of the Indian Premier League he said.

The PCB chairman was asked whether the league will be a copy of the highly successful Indian Premier League.

PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf answered; "This is a wrong impression. We are working on delivering an innovative and exciting PPL but it would not be on the exact model of the IPL."

He also added about the companies that have shown interest to become a part of the league, amongst those there are  also two Indian companies that want to invest in the Pakistan League.

"Nimbus made a presentation regarding the league earlier this month. There are a few other companies in the picture as well," Ashraf said.

Meanwhile, Ten Sports and one UK Based company also made presentation to the Board on the league that might start this year.

"We have had several presentations and many people are promising to deliver a lot but we have to ensure the model we follow is viable for us financially and secondly it allows us to tap the international market," one PCB official who declined to be named said.

PCB chairman also said that the franchise would have to purchase them under a set financial model due to the participation of the foreign players.

He also said that the planned Twenty20 league may not be named the Pakistan Premier League.
"We are not going to call it Pakistan Premier League as some people have been suggesting for quite some time now. We are still in the process of finalising a name that is good enough for what we hope will be an innovative and exciting league," Ashraf said.

Tendulkar set for new role in Parliament

The stage is all set for Master Blaster Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar to start his new innings but this time not on the field but rather in the Parliament as Member of Parliament.

Indian President Pratibha Patil on Thursday approved the nominations of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar to the Rajya Sabha. "The President has approved the nomination of Sachin Tendulkar".Earlier on the day government recommended cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Tendulkar would be the first active sportsman and a cricketer to be nominated to Rajya Sabha.

Tendulkar's nomination to Rajya Sabha has come as a surprise against the backdrop of a long-standing demand for conferring of Bharat Ratna on him for his contribution to the game. He completed the historic achievement of scoring 100 international centuries in March this year.

Tendulkar and his wife Anjali paid a courtesy visit to Congress President Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi this morning. Sonia wanted to meet the batting great and personally congratulate him on achieving the historic feat of scoring 100 international centuries.

Tendulkar and his wife spent close to half an hour with Sonia. Tendulkar, who turned 39 on Tuesday, had to wait for more than one year to move from 99 hundreds to the landmark 100th century before finally achieving it in an Asia Cup match against Bangladesh on March 16.

The 39-year-old Tendulkar, who has brought many a laurel to the country through his exploits in the game will become members of Parliament under a provision of the constitution that allows the President to nominate 12 members to the Upper House. He has nominated under Article 80 of the Constitution for persons having special knowledge or practical experience in matters such as sports, literature, science, art and social service.

However his former teammate Sanjay Manjrekar  which is now a commentator and cricket analyst and Commentator Harsha Bhogle is not happy with his decision. Manjrekar earlier said that its came as shock to me that Tendulkar accepted the decision because right now he is playing cricket and has very much involved in it.Its very tough task to do both things simultaneously and Parliament is something which Sachin is totally unaware and new to it.

Question of Dropping Strauss is rediculous - Michael Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan said in an interview with a sports website that it is totally "ridiculous" to drop Andrew Strauss from a test team squad of England Cricket Team.

Vaughan said that every player suffer from his bad form one day someone faces earlier while some lately. We have to accept it that this phase comes once in a life of every cricketer and Andrew Strauss is also suffering from the same. He lacks of form in recent times and also unable to score some good knocks but that doesn't means he is not deserved to be in the team his performance as a Captain is very good which is good for any team.England gain number 1spot in test for the first time only under his captaincy. All he wants is some good knocks to regain his lost momentum.

Andrew Strauss scores just one hundred in his last 50 test match innings and that too since November 2010.His average is also very poor of 26 in the last year calendar and white wash against Pakistan  and poor performance against Sri Lanka are forced critics to point their fingers against Strauss. Baking him Vaughan said Strauss knew that he is not among runs and he is also under tremendous pressure although his feet are moving quite well and there is not any problems in his batting technique. All he wants to convert that 20's and 30's into a bigger one.And he knows how to do it all he need is to patient.

It must be a matter of concern for him if he did not perform in coming West Indies tour.He is safe till now is only because their is no any experience and talented player in England team who can open the innings with Alastair Cook. There are lots of others players to bat at number 4,5 or 6 but right now we don't have such alternatives at the opening slot.So coming West Indies tour would be a better stage for him to prove his skills and his experience and I am sure he will do that quoted by Vaughan.

Vaughan also talked about himself that he also suffer from that bad form also and he also was the Captain of the team same like Strauss at that time when he played against New Zealand at Lords then no one was talking about his Captaincy but everyone was concerned about his form and he some how manage to score a hundred in that match.

Vaughan was talking at the launch of Nat-West's Locals v Legends series. The scheme offers local cricket clubs across England and Wales an opportunity to play a T20 match against a team of England legends captained by Vaughan, with an aim of providing a boost to club funds.

BOWLERS WORKED FOR WI

ROSEAU, Dominica – For 15 odds years, a leg-spinner with the christian name Shane terrorised batsmen around the World, bowling Australia to memorable Test victory after memorable Test victory.

On Monday, an off-spinner with the same christian name gave the Australians a bit of come uppance and a taste of the misery that the World’s leading batsmen encountered over the years, only to hear the well-worn refrain from behind the stumps, “Bowling Shane!”
Off-spinner Shane Shillingford made a memorable start to his first Test on home soil, putting West Indies on top early in the third and final Digicel Test against the Aussies.
Shillingford grabbed four wickets for 77 runs from 34 overs, as Australia, choosing to bat, reached 212 for seven in their first innings at the close on the opening day at Windsor Park in the Dominica capital of Roseau.
Shillingford, the sixth Dominica-born player to appear in Tests, a list that includes former England fast-medium bowler Philip Defreitas, led the home team onto the field at the start of play and was loudly cheered every step of the way before he helped West Indies gain an early edge.
He gained appreciable bounce and sharp turn from a pitch that he knows extremely well, breaking the backs of the Australia batting with the scalps of David Warner, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey for modest scores, after the visitors cruised to 84 for one in the first hour after lunch.
Shillingford grabbed one of the two wickets before tea that kept West Indies in the hunt, as Australia reached 136 for three at tea.
The hosts ran into a roadblock either side of lunch, when Warner and Shane Watson put on 83 for the second wicket.
Kraigg Brathwaite missed a sharp chance at forward short leg to separate them in the first half hour after lunch, when Watson, on 35, tried to turn a delivery from Shillingford into the leg-side and the ball flew from the batsman’s glove.
But Sammy made the breakthrough, when Watson top-edged a hook at a short, rising ball from the West Indies captain and was caught at deep square leg for 41 about 40 minutes after the lunch.
West Indies continued to bowl with discipline and Warner started to grow restless at the crease. He reached an even 50 from 133 balls, when he drove Kemar Roach through cover for a single before he mistimed a cut and was caught at cover for the same score.
For close to an hour before the break, West Indies created some anxious moments for Ponting, the former Aussie captain, and Clarke, his successor.
After the break, Shillingford had Ponting caught at short square leg for 23, when he played defensively forward to a delivery that bounced awkwardly, flew off the glove, and Sammy skipped to his left to collect in the third over after tea.
Shillingford added Clarke caught at forward short leg for 24, also playing defensively forward to a delivery that turned and bounced sharply.
West Indies kept runs at a premium and Hussey failed to get Australia out of jail this time before he too, played defensively forward, edged and was spectacularly caught at slip for 10, when Sammy flew to his left to clutch a one-handed catch that brought the crowd that half-filled the stadium to its feet.
Roach, the bowling hero in the previous Test in Trinidad, made sure Ryan Harris, returning to the Aussie line-up, did not perform any heroics with the bat, serving up a bouncer, which the batsman top-edged and was caught behind down the leg-side for four, leaving the Aussies 169 for seven.
West Indies failed however, to dismiss the visitors inside the remaining, near 15 overs, as Mitchell Starc, not out on 24, joined Matthew Wade, not out on 22, to add 43 – unbroken – for the eighth wicket inside the last hour.
Before lunch, Ravi Rampaul made an immediate impact on his return, but West Indies had failed to make early inroads into Australia’s batting.
Rampaul removed Ed Cowan in the second over of the morning, but Warner and Watson carried Australia to 69 for one at lunch.
West Indies might have taken a firmer grip early had Sammy not spilled a catch at third slip off Rampaul, when Warner, on five, edged a loose drive at a delivery outside the off-stump.
Rampaul gave West Indies an early breakthrough, when Cowan offered no stroke to a delivery that straightened and the left-handed opener was adjudged lbw for one in the second over.
West Indies made one change to their side – Rampaul came in to play his first match of the series, replacing fellow fast bowler Fidel Edwards, whose stiff back put him on the sidelines.
Australia made two changes with Harris and left-arm fast bowler Starc replacing left-arm spinner Michael Beer and fast bowler James Pattinson, who has returned home to seek medical treatment on a stiff back.
West Indies trail 0-1 in the series, following a three-wicket defeat in the first Digicel Test at Kensington Oval in Barbados, and a draw in the second Digicel Test at Queen’s Park Oval, which meant that Australia would retain the Frank Worrell Trophy, symbol of supremacy between the two sides.
West Indies are still in the hunt for their first Test win over the Aussies in nine years.

Cricket Craze: From Street Cricket To National Team

Special Report for YOC

The development of cricket in Nepal is because of the strong influence of Indian culture in Nepalese society and development of international T.V. communication system in Nepal. Cricket now holds an inseparable part in Nepalese sport. Although new in world cricket, Nepal has shown rapid development in cricket but the lack of infrastructures is the biggest hurdle in its development.

With the starting of this decade, Nepalese cricket has been showing some remarkable improvements. The development of women cricket can be taken as one of the most important achievements. The world record 10 wicket haul by Mehaboob Aalam, hat-trick by Shakti Gauchan and his visit to India in the invitation of Rajsthan Royals are some of the important events of Nepalese cricket. Moreover, Nepal finished 7th in this ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier and has been selected for upcoming U-19 cricket world cup. The strong bowling lineup of Nepal blessed with some promising players like Shakti Gauchan, Mehaboob Aalam, etc is capable of destroying any batting lineup.

Nepal played first class cricket for the first time in 2004, playing in the ICC Intercontinental Cup against the UAE and Malaysia. They beat Malaysia, but drew with the UAE, failing to reach the semi-final stage. They finished third in the ACC Fast Track Nations Tournament during 2004, which qualified them for the 2005 ICC Intercontinental Cup, and finished 5th in the ACC Trophy, which qualified them for the-repêchage tournament of the 2005 ICC Trophy. They finished third in this tournament after beating Qatar in a play-off, meaning that they did not qualify for the 2005 ICC Trophy in Ireland.[13] They beat the UAE and drew with Hong Kong in the 2005 ICC Intercontinental Cup, but missed out on qualification for the semi-finals by half a point. They were runners-up to the UAE in the 2005 ACC Fast Track Nations Tournament.

In March 2006, Nepal played Namibia in Windhoek in a play-off match to decide the final team in the 2006 ICC Intercontinental Cup. Needing to win outright to qualify for the main tournament, the match was drawn after there was no play on the first day. Later in the year, they toured Pakistan, playing against the Pakistan Cricket Academy before playing in the ACC Trophy in Kuala Lumpur. They finished fourth in the tournament after losing to Afghanistan in a play-off. They won the first ACC Premier League in 2006. They most recently played in the ACC Twenty20 Cup in Kuwait, where they finished fourth in their first round group.

In May 2008, Nepal traveled to Jersey to play in Division Five of the World Cricket League. Although Nepal topped Group A after the group qualifying matches, they lost their semi-final to Afghanistan and finished third overall after defeating the USA in a playoff. With only the top two from this tournament qualifying for Division Four in Tanzania later in the year, Nepal missed out on the chance to take their 2011 World Cup dream any further.

Nepal won their first major tournament beating USA in the final of World Cricket League Division Five held at Kathmandu in February 2010.They then came 3rd in 2010 ICC World Cricket League Division Four, thus remaining for 2012 ICC World Cricket League Division Four.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has been playing decent role in development of Nepalese cricket. Being an underdeveloped country, Nepal has been facing the problems regarding sports infrastructure and the government is the positive enough towards it but this has stopped CAN from delivering its goals. The great support of Nepalese cricket fans and personal contribution by some big industrialists of Nepal has been playing supportive role in its development. Nepal posses a great potentiality of cricket, So the international cricketing bodies and the Government of Nepal need to introduce big projects for the development of infrastructures and skilled human resources.

KKR earns tough victory against Discharged Deccan

Kolkata Knight Riders 127 for 5 (Tiwary 30*, Steyn 2-24) beat Deccan Chargers 126 for 7 (Dhawan 50, Balaji 2-22) by five wickets

Manoj Tiwary in action he scored 30 unbeaten runs
It was very hard earning point for Kolkata Knight Riders against "discharged" Deccan Chargers who lost 5 consecutive matches of this season and looks like next to impossible for Chargers to come back in the main hunt. Sangakkara and company has a very tough this year IPL season as their search for victory is still on pending. Earlier today match has a delay start of an hour because of rain but good news for cricket lovers was that no deduction of overs taken place.

Kolkata won the toss and once again elected to field first at Barabati stadium Cuttack which was the host ground for Deccan Chargers. Chargers were going on course before Sangakkara (12) lost his tempo and cleaned bowled by Balaji then Parthiv Patel and Shikhar Dhawan gone out with a good partnership before Parthiv got run out but Shikhar Dhawan was very consistent with his performance in this season and scored a very good half century but he also could not remain in the hunt for so long and at-last Deccan in their last few overs didnt come out so well and scored 7-120.

KKR bowlers done a very good in job in restricting Chargers for such a low score specially Brett Lee(1-15 in 4overs), Balaji(2-22 in 4overs) and Suniel Narine(2-26 in 4overs). Bhatia also very impressive in his middle overs as he renowned for this speciality of bowling mixture of slower.

While in the chase McCullum(10) again failed to impressed with his performance and now has a very much pressure of regain his position in the team where the star players like Shakib Al Hassan, Eoin Morgan has to share the bench with the team. Gambhir on the other hand was consistent as always but their innings was so slow and lost regular wickets. Yousuf Pathan form now questioning his place in the side and it will be not surprised for us if he didnt get tha chance in next coming matches.

His poor forms continues as he made just 6 runs, started well a with a huge six but get bowled against a new comer Ankit Sharma but Knight Riders slowly but surely completed their chase in 19 overs. Manoj Tiwary(30) played situation demanding innings and Kallis(23) also contributes in the middle of the innings.
Dale Steyn (2-24 in 4overs) and Ankit Sharma(1-19 in 4overs)were impressive for chargers
Kolkata after this 4th win comes 3rd on the table while DC remains top from the bottom. Man of the Match: Brett Lee was named MoM for his impressive bowling figures of 1-15 in just 4 overs

Presentation:

Gautam Gambhir: "The wicket was low, credit to Deccan for the way they bowled. It was a matter of applying themselves, and Manoj and the others did that."
Kumar Sangakkara: "We got a great start, was a great platform. We should have got 150, but KKR fielded brilliantly. We can talk about another missed catch probably, but we bowled well, and made it difficult for KKR."

Brett Lee is the Man of the Match. Lee: "We summed the wicket up pretty well today. We tried to put the new ball up there to try and get the nicks, but then we took pace off it. Only four [overseas players] make it to the XI, a lot of guys miss out, that is the way it is."

Bengal Tiger roars as Pune Warriors back on winning track

By: Syed Rozan Abbas

Pune Warriors 192 for 3 (Ryder 86, Ganguly 41) beat Delhi Daredevils 172 for 7 (Sehwag 57, Thomas 3-22, Ganguly 2-27) by 20 runs

After a very good start to the tournament, Pune suffered two consecutive losses failing to hold the nerve in nail biting finishes. This time Ganguly was up against the team led by one of his disciples. Virender Sehwag’s good toss form continued as Pune was asked to bat yet again. Much to the worry of Pune Warriors Dinda failed to prove his fitness. As a surprised change, Samuels gave way to Alphonso Thomas, first time in this season. Without Samuels, the warriors started their innings with a batsman short. But Ryder(86), Ganguly(41) and Steven Smith(34) ensured Pune a great total of 3-192.

While in the bowling department for Delhi Irfan Pathan will consider economical as compare to that huge run chase 4overs 1 maiden 0-25 runs all 3 wickets were taken by Morne Morkel but he was the most expensive amongs all 4overs 3-50.

While chasing Delhi has changed their batting order but looses its key wicket Mahela Jayawardene for just 7 runs. After that two powerful hitter of the ball Sehwag and Pietersen shown some good hands before Pietersen (32) got bowled out on a very low bounced ball by Ganguly and after the depart of Sehwag playing a very lazy shot and get back straight to the safe hands of Murali Karthik it was merely all over for the Delhi he scored 57 runs including 4 sixes.

While Ganguly was made a succesfully came back in bowling after a long time by taking 2-27 in 4 overs while replacing man Alphanso Thomas also showed his worthness in the field by taking 3-22 in just 4 overs.

As expected Saurav Ganguly was named Man of the Match for his fantastic performances with bat as well as ball. Ha taken 2 wickets and moreover scored an important 41 runs.

Presentation:
Virender Sehwag: Never, I have never seen Sourav run the way he did. I needed to bat till the end, at least till the 16th over. We needed someone to bat on till the end, irrespective of how many batsmen we had. The wicket was good to bat on, I liked batting on this pitch.

Sourav Ganguly: Sehwag was hitting them hard, so it is a relief when he gets out. The last five overs of batting from Smith were good, but only when Sehwag got out we thought we came back into the game. Getting KP out was a big relief obviously, which was the reason behind that run.

Last ball win for CSK over Rajasthan

Chennai Super Kings 147 for 3 (du Plessis 73) beat Rajasthan Royals 146 for 4 (Shah 52, Menaria 36) by seven wickets

Last ball finishes seem to have become a trend this IPL, proving how close and evenly contested games this IPL is seeing. Faf Du Plesses laid a brilliant platform to ensure that Chennai get home in a thriller just edging out the Rajasthan Royals in a last ball finish.
Dravid won the toss for the Royals and decided to bat. Rahane and Dravid got the Royals off to a slow and steady start until a Bravo over that went for 15 to get the innings going. Ashwin then got the dangerous Rahane to a soft dismissal. Chennai followed up with some tight bowling and kept a check on the Royals scoring. Dravid fell to Jakarti in pursuit of some quick runs and Royals seemed to struggle at 50/2 after 8 overs.
How often have over 13-15 changed the course of the batting team’s innings; a poor 15th over from Jadeja gave much needed momentum to Royals’ innings. Shah got a six and a four but Jadeja slipped 10 wides down both sides of the wickets. While runs kept coming off Bollinger and Bravo, it was Kulasekara who pulled things back for Chennai, going for just 17 in his four overs bowling towards the death.
Owais Shah scored a well-paced 50 and Menaria gave him good company. But 146 seemed at least 20 runs short, given that Dravid mentioned they would like to pile a big score for the long Chennai batting line-up.
Chennai were off to a great start courtesy Badrinath and Du Plessis. After a quite Menaria over, Du Plessis struck three boundaries off Binny, making his first appearance in IPL 2012. Hogg provided the break through having Badri stumped. Du Plessis on the other end not only held fort but also scored freely at will. In the process, he bought up his third fifty of this IPL off just 34 balls.
Hogg kept it tight for the Royals and gave them some hope by pushing the run-rate to 9 in the last six overs. However, it was the lack of wickets that was hurting the Royals. Super Cooper did the trick to pick the set Du Plessis and Raina in the space of three balls. That did set the match up with 29 required off 18.
In the last over it was just 8 required from 6 balls but captain dravid shows trust on the new comer Binny but it was Captain cool Dhoni made the run chase more hotter by taking it to the last ball 2 were required from 1 ball although Chennai managed to take these two runs but good throw could make this match nearby to 1st tie of IPL-5.

DRS criticism charged Gibson

Ottis Gibson, The West Indies team coach has been fined 20% for criticising DRS usage due to its lack of consistency.

His comments breached the ICC code of conduct during second Test match between West Indies and Australia in Port of Spain. He was charged with a Level 1 of`fence relating to inappropriate public comment.
ICC match referee, Jeff Crowe said; "In the per-series meetings it was agreed that players and coaches should not engage in negative media comments, Ottis accepts that he overstepped the mark during the game and has now accepted his sanction.

"The incident took place on Tuesday when, during the post-third day's play media briefing, Gibson challenged the efficacy of the Decision Review System (DRS) and its implementation by the match officials."
Hot Spot has been ignored in the three matches series, budget was given its reason. Many close replays remained inconclusive due to hot spot absence, it also happened in England-Sri Lanka contest where Hot Spot was absent.

Gibson had said earlier that if ICC is interested to use the modern technology, then they should use Hot Spot as well. "I can't say what I really want to say about the DRS because the ICC will sack me or ban me or whatever. If the ICC is going to use DRS I think they should use all the technology and I think if we haven't got all the technology we shouldn't use it at all."

Gibson commented on DRS due to the decision that was overturned in Clark’s favor. He was given out by the umpire but review saved saved him, also there were not strong suggestions of proving the batsman not out.

"Over the course of the two Test matches, the way that it's panned out, the decisions that have gone against us," he added. "In Barbados we had a man out [Michael Clarke] and then he was given not out with the use of the cameras and so on. To us sitting watching it, we didn't see anything conclusive to say that he had hit it or not hit it so therefore we thought that the decision the umpire made in the first instance should have stood instead of being overruled."

Gayle outclassed 'Kings' of Punjab

Royal Challengers Bangalore 166 for 5 (Gayle 87, Awana 4-34) beat Kings XI Punjab 163 for 6 (Hussey 41) by five wickets

Kings XI Punjab shomed some fight for a while against Royal Challengers Bangalore but they failed to make the victory against the strong batting line up of Bangalore. Although Azhar Mahmood turned the middling total into a seemingly challenging one and Parvinder Awana provided early strikes but the Royal Challengers had Gayle and AB de Villiers to chase the total.

Royal Challengers were struggling especially when the total was 25 for 3 and the required rate was touching nine-and-a- half. Bangalore lack of depth in bowling failed to provide an opportunity for their home crowd to celebrate in shape of AB de Villiers or Chris Gayle wicket.

This is the third consecutive mega tournament for Chris Gayle in last 5 months in which his bat is not only scoring runs but also thrashing the opposite team bowlers with his batting power. Kings XI Punjab captain, David Hussey lack of leadership skills also let down the team especially in a time when he needed to bring their wicket taking bowlers after early strikes.

It was tough for the bowlers to control the two crazy batsmen well known for their big hittings. From one side Gayle was sending the ball out of the park with his power while on other side De Villiers with his presence of mind showing bowlers the way of boundary.

Kings XI succeeded to take the game into the last over of the match after AB de Villiers and Gayle depart. But at the end, Royal Challangers were strong enough to chase the target of 165 runs. Earlier, Azhar Mahmood who made his debut in IPL – 5 not as a Pakistani but as a British citizen smashed some fours and sixes to set a huge target.

Azhar Mahmood unbeaten 33* runs from 14 balls helped the Kings XI to post their highest total of the season. Mahmood succeeded to delight his fans not only in India but also across the border.
David Hussey came with 41 runs from 34 balls and was the top scorer for Kings XI in game that Kings XI lost by 4 wickets.

PRESENTATION:

Vettori (RCB captain) : Good win, very good chase by AB and Chris, they were quite confident in their chase. Power of Chris to turn the game around in a couple of overs. Helps to win two in a row and gets the confidence up, hope to peak at the right time, want to get 8 or 9 wins to get to the playoffs.

Hussey (Kings XI Captain Punjab): We were 10 runs light, the bowlers did a good job I thought, lot of positives to come, Mahmood came back well, Awana bowled well, Chawla did a good job too.

Gayle (man of the match): Ball came on to the bat, wanted to keep my cool, AB came on and played wonderfully, good win and looking to Rajasthan next. Yes, there should be some protection for the umpires and the fans in the stadium, you don't want a loose ball hitting you. Thank god no-one got hit today.
